Twitter is the latest major social media platform to launch live-stream shopping experiences, beginning with a Walmart Cyber Week broadcast.
Twitter catching up with other social platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Pinterest, and starting to offer on-platform live-stream shopping experiences. The feature, which builds on maximizing eCommerce activity by delivering immediacy and engagement through shoppable live events, was announced earlier this week.

Compared to the other shoppable experiences on competing platforms, Twitter’s version of live-stream shopping events will display shopping options right below the video feed of the broadcast, along with a live tweet discussion around the event users can join, and a Shop tab featuring all the products mentioned during the broadcast.
Twitter will test its first-ever shoppable live stream on iOS and desktop with Walmart during a Cyber Week special featuring singer, songwriter, dancer, and social media superstar Jason Derulo.
Starting November 28 at 7 pm ET, people can watch and shop from @Walmart, where Jason will host a 30-minute variety show highlighting electronics, home goods, apparel, seasonal décor, surprise special guests, and more.
The American retailer chain is not new to the concept as it has already previously participated in live-streaming shoppable experiences on TikTok and Snapchat. Walmart has also posted a new job position last summer where it sought to hire a blockchain expert to expand on its digital currency strategy.
Twitter has started to expand into in-stream shopping options over the past year. In July, the platform has also launched a live test of its coming Shop module for business profiles, and in October it rolled out professional accounts for all businesses in the US.
The use of Professional Twitter Accounts gives businesses the opportunity to grow and strengthen their presence on the platform and gives brands the opportunity to create more in-stream engagement.
