Instagram has announced the addition of three new creative Boomerang modes, plus the ability to “trim and tweak your Boomerang.”
Earlier last year, reverse engineering enthusiast, Jane Manchun Wong, spotted two new features on Instagram. The first was a collection of six new camera modes for Boomerang, and the second was a new Boomerang trimming option. The features are now officially rolling out, but instead of six camera modes, we’re only getting three: SlowMo, Echo, and Duo.
In a Tweet late last week, Instagram confirmed the roll-out.

To start using the new features, first, make sure that you’ve updated your Instagram app to the latest version.
Then, simply start shooting a Boomerang as you usually would. When you’re done shooting, tap on the infinity button at the top of your screen to open up the three new modes, and a new way to “trim and tweak your Boomerang” to get it to look exactly how you want it.
When you’re done, you can share your Boomerang in Stories.
What does each new Boomerang mode do?
- SlowMo – Self-explanatory
- Echo – Adds a motion blur to your Boomerang
- Duo – Creates a rapid rewind effect
The new features aren’t much, but they can give you an extra creative edge when making your Boomerangs.
