Facebook Is About To Launch Notify, Its #BreakingNews App

Back in August we reported that Facebook was working on a Breaking News app. Well, it seems like it is ready and about to go live as early as next week. Its name: Notify.

Facebook knows it: social media users are hungry for news. We want to hear it first, because we want to share it first. It’s a nice being the one who knows stuff… the one who tells others about it. After all, social media sharing is a “me first” game, right?

Twitter is usually the platform where news break first. Snapchat is also trying to enter the game with its Breaking News filters. Now, Facebook is finally ready to play its part.

The Financial Times reported that Notify could be launching as early as next week as “dozens of media partners” – including Vogue, The Washington Post, Comedy Central, Billboard, and CBS – are already on board.

After making Instant Articles more widely available, Facebook is now taking it one step further. Reports indicate that Notify will feature content from across all kinds of media, including print and video as well as digital. As a “breaking news” app, Notify will of course send you push notifications as soon as or if something relevant and/or major happens, and content should be available almost instantly.
