Social media might have been an elitist channel a few years ago, but nowadays, we are all on it. And by all, I mean us, of course, but brands too, a lot of brands. And with mass usage comes… unoriginality. We all post the same stuff, check-in at the same types of places, share the same updates, post the same photos. Yes, everything we do on social tends to be very mainstream (sorry hipsters.)
And while this is perfectly ok for most users, it’s a hard reality for brands and marketers. The need to stand out is stronger than ever. It’s a topic that comes back almost every week in our mashups of the most read articles, and it also happens to be the topic of our upcoming #BeatTheBuzz event in London. (Have you got your ticket yet?)

And of course, the second most popular topic is… ads. There is not one week without a platform announcing something new, some kind of improved ad format or a new way to actually buy ads. This week Snapchat announced it could well launch a self-serve ad platform, and that is BIG news. The platform has not really found its way into monetisation yet, but this time, it could change everything.

You Can Now See Which Are The Best Facebook Posts From Your Competitors – We’re always interested to know what others do well, what kind of content they use to perform well, what their copy looks like, etc… A new feature within your Facebook Page’s insights does just that. It shows you what posts from your competitors – from your “pages to watch” – are performing best. And that in itself is already a goldmine of intel.
Instagram Is The New “Pay To Play” Platform – Instagram was one of the most engaging social platforms in 2015, but it is growing so fast that, it is becoming more and more difficult to get organic growth on it. In fact, organic growth and engagement have fallen a lot within 2015 and Instagram is heading towards becoming much more of a “pay-to-play” platform in 2016.
Self Serve Ad Buying Is Coming To Snapchat –Snapchat is pretty picky when it comes to advertising. The social network is charging brands hefty sums to let them advertise. However, some latest reports, show that this is about to change.
Are You Guilty Of Social Media Unoriginality? – What would social media be without its hilarious and somewhat uninspired hashtags? Admit it, we all plead guilty to using them, when recording and posting our memories on social media. And it was only a matter of time, before anyone created a video with the most overused hashtags on social media.
Facebook Lead Ads Just Got Some New Features – A few months ago advertisers on Facebook were given a new way to get leads on the platform with a brand new ad type called Lead ads. It’s months later, and Lead ads have proven to be very successful. So much so, that Facebook is adding some new features to them. |
