Instagram is testing a new AR shopping experience with select brands, powered by Facebook’s Spark AR.
Highly expected, it seems AR is finally about to enrich the shopping experience on Instagram. Thanks to Spark AR, Instagram is now letting shoppers virtually try on products before buying. The new feature is only open to a few selected brands for now: Ray-Ban, Warby Parker, MAC Cosmetics, and NARS Cosmetics.
The new AR shopping experience is accessible via feed posts, brands’ profiles, or Stories, and you will need to be using the latest version of Instagram on your phone. It allows users to try on different shades of make-up or models of glasses before buying the product that suits them the best, and/or sharing their looks via Stories or DMs to their friends.
