Facebook Is Bringing Live Streaming To Everyone

It was 3 months ago, Facebook announced “Live,” it’s new live streaming video feature, born to compete with Twitter‘s Periscope. However, the feature was only accessible via the Mentions App – Facebook app for celebrities – and hence, could only be used by users with a verified profile.

Yesterday, this all changed, and Facebook is now starting to roll out “Live” to more users.

Starting today, some users will see the new option for streaming live video when looking to share a new status. This is being rolled out to US users first, and then gradually to the rest of the world. Facebook says about 5% of its users have access to the feature for now.

If you like our stories, there is an easy way to stay updated:

To check if you have early access, click on ‘Update Status’ and if you see the little icon there, then you can start to live stream immediately:

At the same time, Facebook is also rolling out its new “update menu” to more users. I have had it for a while and find it very useful. On the home screen (timeline), when you tap on “What’s on your mind” or on your profile pic, you will see a drop down menu with all the sharing options: Write, Photo/Video, Check-in, Feeling, and now Live Video for those who already have access:
