Twitch Is Making Watch Parties Available On Android And iOS

Months after launching Watch Parties on desktop, Twitch is now rolling out the feature to mobile devices as well.

In September last year, Twitch announced Watch Parties – a feature that lets communities come together to watch movies or TV shows hosted by a streamer, and simultaneously react, comment, discuss and cheer.

Watch Parties was initially introduced as a feature accessible only on desktop – via Firefox or Chrome browsers – but Twitch promised to make it available on mobile devices. Now, Watch Parties is coming to Android and iOS as well.

On Twitch, over 108k users currently watch and follow Watch Parties, but as the feature becomes available on mobile devices, the number of creators hosting parties and viewers watching them is set to rise.

As Twitch is an Amazon-owned platform, the new feature allows users to watch and discuss anything available on their Amazon Prime or Prime Video subscription – with localized subtitles or audio supported by Prime Video in a viewer’s region. Once a party is joined, participants will watch the video together, directly on Twitch.

Channel moderators have special access to the Chat of the virtual watch party, but not to the Prime Video content itself unless they are Amazon Prime or Prime Video subscribers. Channel editors with a subscription to the streamed content will be treated as any other viewer during a Watch Party, with no special privileges.

The feature has also gained popularity on other platforms as it becomes more widely adopted.
