Messenger Rooms Will Also Be Available In Facebook Groups And Events

Facebook has now announced that its new Messenger Rooms group video chat feature will also be available in Groups and Events.

Late last month, Facebook announced Messenger Rooms, a new video chat feature that allows up to 50 users to start a video hangout with no time limit and no need for a Facebook account. As the feature starts to roll out, Facebook now announced that it will also be bringing Messenger Rooms to Groups and Events as well.

Admins and members can create Rooms from within the Facebook Groups they belong to, or the Events the are organizing, in order to host up to 50 people on Messenger video calls for as long as they like.

Members can add link sharing to make it easier for people to invite more people to a room, even people who aren’t their friends. It could be a Group members, or even someone who doesn’t have a Facebook or Messenger account.

In a Group, a room can be created from the Groups composer, which will show active chats that people can join. Individual groups can have many chat rooms, but rooms that already include 50 people will not be able to add any additional group members – including admins.

Admins can allow Messenger Rooms within their group, or make Rooms “admin only.” Therefore, only admins can create Rooms, but anyone can actually join them. Admins can also allow any person within a group to create a room. Finally, admins are also able to delete any video chat room at any time.

If a group has post approvals turned on, only Admins can create a Room, unless this setting is changed by the Group admin. For groups that don’t have post approvals on, the default will be anyone in the group can create a Room.

Facebook is starting to roll out the ability to mark a Facebook Event as an “Online Event.” Now, to help people people engage more when attending an Online Event, Facebook is also integrating Messenger Rooms to it as well. This integration will allow people to invite their friends or family, but also their classmates and colleagues to “hang out.”

Rooms will only, however, be available for Private Online Events with the 50-participant limit, of course.

Messenger Rooms in Groups and Events is now available on iOS, Android, and desktop.
