What started out as a college networking tool, seems to have come full circle, with the launch of Facebook’s Dating, which is now also available in the US.
This is not a new idea. Facebook has been working on the concept for some time now and has even soft-launched the service in a handful of countries. However, the company has now decided that this is a good time to make it more widely available.
A bit about the features of the app, first. Facebook Dating will live inside the app, and users over 18 will be eligible to subscribe and use it for free. Users will be matched based on interests and other available data and in order to initiate an interaction, they will only have to comment or like their profile to let them know.
Facebook Dating won’t match you with friends unless you choose to use Secret Crush and you both add each other to your list. Facebook Dating also lets users add their Instagram pictures to their profile and enrich it, as well as share their Facebook or Instagram Stories.
When it comes to privacy and security, Facebook says that all dating activity will stay within the boundaries of the Dating service and won’t leave the room.
Secret Crush lets users match with people they already know on Facebook and/or Instagram. By default, Facebook Dating won’t match users with their Facebook Friends. People using Facebook Dating can share details of their upcoming date and/or live location with someone they trust via Messenger, giving them more power on what they share or not.
If your Secret Crush is already on Dating and reciprocates, then you’re in luck! If they’re not on Dating, then worry not, because Facebook won’t retain this information and no-one will have to know about it.
Moreover, Dating offers connectivity with Groups, so that users can interact with people who share similar interests, and if it’s meant for love that’s great, but if not, then consider yourself expanding your network. Not too shabby.
Creating a profile should be as easy as 1-2-3, as the platform will suggest to users which pictures to use and information you can add or remove from your profile.
All in all, Facebook is offering yet another add-on to its expansive platform, which promises to work seamlessly, but comes with a lot of caveats.
Take a peek on how it works below, and if cupid it’s on your side, then you may have can make your date Facebook official!

It will be in Europe by early 2020.
