Last week, YouTube introduced a “new look” for its homepage on desktop and tablets, bringing longer video titles, larger thumbnails, and more.
YouTube’s new Home experience is currently rolling out across desktops and mobile apps on both Android and iOS (tablets only), bringing a range of features to the homepage, making it easier “to help you find the next great video to watch,” as well as “customize what to watch next with your queue.” And, a whole lot more.
For starters, the new look brings longer video titles, larger (and richer) thumbnails that provide more information about a video, and higher resolution video previews. Also, some content shelves have been removed, leading to a cleaner design overall. But worry not. You can still find all the stuff you’re accustomed to. Furthermore, channel icons appear below each video, which makes it easier to recognize the creators behind it.
YouTube is also bringing the ability to add videos to a queue on desktop. Just select the videos you’d like to watch next. No interruptions. While queued videos won’t save when you close your browser, you can still save videos to your permanent “Watch Later” playlist. But, there’s more.
Earlier in the year, YouTube added a mobile feature that lets you easily remove suggestions from channels you don’t want to watch. This feature is now also coming to desktop. Just use the three-dot menu next to a video on the homepage, and select “Don’t recommend channel.” Simple.
You will not see videos from that channel suggested for you on the YouTube homepage. You can still find them if you search, or visit the channel page or Trending tab, but they will never be recommended to you.
Next up, the ability to select topics to refine your Homepage and Up Next videos, also a feature added on mobile. Earlier this year, YouTube brought this feature to the YouTube Android app, allowing you to customize your Home feed as you see fit. This feature is soon coming to desktop and tablets as well.
