If seven days seems like an eternity to you, worry not – WhatsApp is now working on a new feature that causes images to disappear when you leave a chat.

WhatsApp is working on self-destructing photos in a future update for iOS and Android.
• Self-destructing photos cannot be exported from WhatsApp.
• WhatsApp didn't implement a screenshot detection for self-destructing photos yet.

We know little about this feature, apart from the fact that you can’t save disappearing photos to use them elsewhere. You may be able to take a screenshot, of course, as there is no such detection – at least at the moment.
According to WABetaInfo, Instagram Direct disappearing messages work in exactly the same way.
