Spotify is amping up to launch a new block feature in its app to mute artists you don’t want to hear from.
It took a few headlines and many users getting frustrated for Spotify to react. But today, Spotify announced is is now ready to introduce a bloc feature in its iOS app that will let you mute and hide away all news from artists you don’t want to hear from.
“Don’t play this artist” simply lets you block an an entire artist from playing – or even appearing in your app. Enabling the feature will ensure you will never again hear a song from this artist from a library, playlist, chart list, or even radio stations on Spotify. It will be literally like they did not exist.
Note that the feature blocks songs from individual artists, but it does not currently allow to block these same artists from songs where they are featured on.
Still, this is a huge update from Spotify who had previously decided to not offer a blocking feature “after serious consideration” back in 2017. But the company reversed its decision after a documentary surfaced details of 25 years of accusations of sexual violence and abuse by singer R. Kelly. The new feature now allows to block all of his music, but it will remain up to each and every user to decide whether to mute individual artists or not.
