Spectacles version 2 are already a bigger success than their predecessor. To celebrate, Snap is launching two new more glamorous and hipster styles.
Snapchat never reveals sales numbers so it’s hard to really know how much more successful version 2 of the Spectacles are in comparison to their predecessor. However, Snap did communicate that V2 owners are capturing 40% more content than people with V1s. That’s a win.
To celebrate this success, Snap is launching two new black-rimmed styles of Spectacles. Both come with a slimmer and nicer semi-soft carrying case and are polarized for the first time.
These new Spectacles look a lot more like regular sunglasses. As such, they should appeal to a more fashionable audience, a smart way for Snapchat to expand its reach.
Both new styles are on sale today for $199 and are available in the US and Europe immediately. The V1s remain at $149. If you ask me, it is totally worth $50 to upgrade to a better style and polarized lenses.
But maybe the real “hipster choice” is to stick to the V1s after all.
