Pornhub Releases Its 2021 Year in Review

For the 8th year in a row, Pornhub’s Insights team sifted through data from billions of visits to see what content defined the year.

Pornhub issued its 8th “Year in Review” on YouTube and a dedicated page on its site last week. The review, hosted by Pornhub’s face Aria Nathaniel, breaks down this year’s data and reveals worldwide trends across generation, gender, demographics, and more.

The recap brings some interesting findings from this year’s user habits, linking some of the shifts to the end of the quarantine lifestyle.

Compared to previous years’ popular interests in search terms like “Fortnite,” “Bowsette,” “amateur,” “aliens,” and “quarantine,” 2021 saw most people on Pornhub search for topics like “Hentai,” a genre of Japanese manga and anime characterized by overtly sexualized characters and sexually explicit images and plots.

Furthermore, the terms “Japanese” and “romance” doubled in popularity, while searches containing “trans” also grew this year, making the Transgender category the 10th most-watched this year by male visitors.

This year’s most viewed categories turned out to be Japanese, Lesbian, Ebony, Hentai, and MILF.

This year’s most Searched Porn Stars are Lana Rhoades, Abella Danger, and Eva Elfie, whereas the most-viewed verified amateur models were Yinyleon, Porn Force, and LuxuryGirl.

In terms of demographics, the US remains Pornhub’s biggest audience, followed by the UK, Japan, France, and Italy. According to the review, this year, users spend about 9 to 11 minutes per visit in general, with the Philippines being the country where people spend the most amount of time and the US the least.

Aria Nathaniel explains the new finding as an improvement to the platform’s algorithm, which is now better at serving recommendations.
