Meta Is Turning Edits Into a Showcase for India’s Creator Talent

Meta is giving its Edits video app a stage of its own. In the official selection announcement, Meta revealed the 12 creators chosen for the Edits Film Festival, taking place in Mumbai this week.

The festival attracted more than 200 entries from across India after creators were invited to make something meaningful from their camera rolls. The submissions ranged from humor and vlogs to GRWM videos and short works of fiction. The selected films will now be judged by Ahsaas Channa, Dolly Singh, Nikhil Taneja and Rajeev Masand, with the top three submissions receiving the final spotlight.

Edits wants to be more than an editing app

The important detail is not simply that Meta is running a creator competition. It is that the company is framing the app as part of the creative identity behind the work.

Meta says the selected films were chosen not only because they told strong stories, but because they also demonstrated what Edits can do. That makes the festival a product showcase disguised as a cultural event. The creators provide the proof, while the app becomes part of the story about how the work was made.

That is a smart position for Meta. Editing tools are increasingly easy to copy, and creators rarely choose a workflow because of feature lists alone. They choose tools that help them move from idea to finished piece with less friction, then build a habit around them. By associating Edits with ambitious creator work, Meta is trying to make the app feel like a place where serious visual ideas begin, not just where clips get polished before they are posted elsewhere.

The creator relationship is the real product

The festival also shows how platforms are competing for creative loyalty beyond the feed. Meta invited creators to work from material already in their camera rolls, then gave the strongest submissions a live cultural moment in Mumbai. That creates a more valuable relationship than a standard app download: creators are not only using the tool, they are participating in the world Meta is building around it.

For brands and marketers, the signal is clear. Creator tools are becoming media properties in their own right. The winning product will not necessarily be the one with the longest feature list. It may be the one that gives creators a reason to make, belong and be seen.
