According to reports, Instagram is working on a new Stories camera mode that allows you to create stop-motion videos easily through its app.
If you ever thought that Stories was a perfect format for stop-motion video, you’ll be happy to hear that Instagram is now working on a dedicated “stopmotion” (sic) Stories camera mode to help you get creative.
Sure, you can create a stop-motion effect in your Stories without this feature, but the camera mode makes things a lot easier, letting you spend less time on the technical side of things and more time on being creative.
Spotted by Jane Manchun Wong last week (who else?), the new stop motion camera option for Instagram Stories lets users create videos without actually recording any video. However, it’s only limited to 10 frames. In her hands-on demonstration video (below), Wong tries the feature with only five frames, and the result is good enough – so that shouldn’t really matter.

The most useful part of this new feature is that it helps you create the animation by overlaying the last captured frame over the previous one, allowing you to make sure that your camera (or subjects) are in the right place – and that the animation’s movement is correct.
Yes, ideally you’d place your device on a tripod or somewhere steady to make this work as well as possible.
The feature hasn’t been announced yet but should be coming soon. Stay tuned for updates!
