Without having proper statistics on this, it is fair to assume that many users are not native English speakers. So, the company’s announcement that it has plans to roll out an automatic translation feature, suddenly seems very useful and relevant.
The information was shared on the official Instagram account and states that the automatic translation service will become available in the coming months:
In the coming month, you’ll see a translation button on feed stories and profile bios written in languages different from your own.
As you can see, translations will be available for both profile bios and any updates shared by the people you follow. It is not yet clear how many languages will be available at first, but the post suggests that translation will be provided for Russian, Japanese, French, Spanish, Italian and German.
