Instagram Is Testing A New Way To Add Hashtags To Your Posts

Instagram is working on a new feature that will let you choose and add hashtags to your posts, outside of the caption or comments.

It is one of the most asked questions among social media marketers: in the caption or the comments, what is the best place to add hashtags to an Instagram post. Some have gone very creative about it, like adding hashtags in the caption but not before adding several line breaks so that they don’t appear when someone sees the post in their feed. Others are convinced that the comment section is where hashtags work best. Well, Instagram could be preparing to put this debate to bed.

Jane Manchun Wong – the web’s favorite feature hunter – came across several potential new features coming to Instagram soon. Among them, she found a new dedicated section for hashtags.

As for the number of hashtags, users are allowed to add? For now, there doesn’t seem to be a limit, but Wong explains that Instagram will figure that out before it rolls out the feature.

The screenshots show a separate section for hashtags when posting, very similar to the one allowing you to tag other users in your photos. The result will be one hashtag shown at the top of a post, with the rest hidden, as seen in the screenshot below.

Overall, it seems like a good idea. Even if it’s just to stop the discussion on whether hashtags work best in the caption or the comments.
