GTA VI Is About To Eat 212GB Of Your Console

Grand Theft Auto VI is huge.

Literally.

Rockstar has confirmed that pre-loading GTA VI will require up to 212GB of available storage, depending on the console. PlayStation 5 players can start downloading at midnight local time on November 10, while Xbox Series X|S players get access at midnight GMT the same day.

The game itself launches November 19.

Make Room For Vice City

212GB is the kind of number that makes “clear some storage” feel slightly inadequate.

Rockstar is actively telling players to make sure they have enough space before pre-loading begins, which makes sense for a game attempting to recreate an enormous fictional version of Florida with Vice City at its center.

It also says something about how much the idea of buying a game has changed.

GTA VI’s Standard Edition costs $79.99, but even the physical version does not actually contain the game on a disc. Rockstar says boxed copies will include a digital download code instead.

You can own the box.

Your internet connection still has to deliver the game.

GTA VI Keeps Getting Bigger Before It Even Launches

The storage number is almost perfectly on-brand for GTA VI at this point.

Rockstar has spent the year presenting the game less like another release and more like a global entertainment event. It premiered a 27-minute gameplay showcase on Netflix, transformed parts of Miami into Vice City with advertising for fictional brands, and has spent months feeding an audience that has waited 13 years since GTA V.

Now even the download size communicates scale.

There are plenty of technical reasons modern games are enormous: high-resolution textures, audio, cinematic assets and increasingly detailed open worlds.

But 212GB still produces the most GTA response imaginable.

Before Rockstar lets you steal a car, it may make you delete three other games.
