Due to the pandemic, such international payments have increased, and for a good reason. It is more important these days for many to be able to help their loved ones.
To make it easier for people to send money home, Google Pay is partnering with Western Union and Wise (formerly TransferWise) to let its users in the US send money to Google Pay users in India and Singapore.
These two countries are just the beginning – Google expects to expand to more than 200 countries and territories through Western Union, and more than 80 countries through Wise, by the end of the year.
To send money internationally, users start by searching for the Google Pay user they would like to send money to and tap “Pay.” Then, they pick Western Union or Wise and follow the next steps to process the payment.
Western Union offers unlimited free transfers when sending money with Google Pay until June 16, while Wise offers the first transfer free for new customers – on transfers up to $500.
