Can #FoodPorn make your food tastier? That’s a good question, and it looks like it’s actually a possibility. A new study conducted at the University of San Diego and Saint Joseph’s University, reveals that Instagram can actually make your food taste better.
The study was conducted during the past few months with around 120 participants, and its goal was to investigate how user-generated content (UGC) that includes food products and plates or food influences both users and prospective consumers.

The findings are impressive. As users take pictures, the delay caused in food consumption increases the savouring associated with consumption of pleasurable (read unhealthy) foods and increases a positive attitude and taste evaluation of the experience when consumption actually takes place.
UGC, and all related #FoodPorn moments make more healthy options, and dishes taste better. So now you know, next time you go on a diet, and don’t feel like eating that fruit salad, just snap a picture for an instant improvement in taste.
How can marketing managers benefit from such findings? There’s an obvious way; Encouraging customers to take pictures, and submitting them to their personal social media accounts will help them have a better eating experience, while spreading a positive word about how delicious their meal was.
See? It’s a win-win situation!
