Firefox is making its AI-powered browsing experience more useful in the places where people usually lose time: forms, tabs, and repetitive checking. Smart Window can now draw from selected open pages to help complete online forms, while also monitoring webpages for changes.
Firefox wants your tabs to become working memory
The form-filling feature is built around a simple interaction. When a form contains at least four text fields, users can choose “Fill from sources” and select which open tabs Firefox should use. Smart Window then generates suggestions from those pages. Mozilla’s example involves pulling work history from an online portfolio or LinkedIn profile into a job application.
That detail matters. The browser is not only answering a question about a page. It is turning a collection of pages into temporary context for a task. The user still chooses the sources, and the current version supports text fields rather than dropdown menus or PDFs. But the direction is clear: the browser is becoming the place where information is assembled and acted on, rather than simply displayed.
The Verge also reports that source-page data is shared with Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite, the model generating the text suggestions. That makes source selection more than a convenience feature. It is also the visible control point for deciding what information enters the AI workflow.
Monitoring turns browsing into a background task
Smart Window can now watch a webpage for sales, job listings, or other changes. Users start a task by typing “/watch” in the Smart Window chat, describing what they want tracked, and adding the relevant pages. Firefox checks daily or weekly, then sends a notification through the toolbar’s Tasks button or desktop notifications.
There are limits. Monitoring only works while the browser is open. Firefox pauses a watch after 60 days without detecting a change and stops it completely after 90 days. The features are rolling out to the Smart Window beta on desktop in the US and Canada, with other countries expected in the coming months.
Together, the updates push AI browsing away from the chatbot box and toward quiet task management. The strategic consequence for Mozilla is that Smart Window has to earn trust at the moment it uses personal context. Choosing the right tabs, seeing what data is being used, and understanding when a task is still active may matter as much as the generated answer.
