Snapchat Will Finally Let You Change Your Silly Old Username

Snapchat will now let you change your old username without compromising aspects of your account, like friends list, Snap codes, or memories.

According to the platform, the feature will apply to all iOS and Android users globally starting February 23. Once a user changes their username, they will receive a notification that they can only do so once per year.

Users can select a new username, as long as it is one that is still available, without impacting aspects of their accounts like their friend lists, Snap codes, Snap scores, memories, etc.

To change their username, users can tap the Bitmoji icon in the top-left corner of their camera and head to their profile section, where they will be able to select the gear icon for settings in the top-right corner.

By tapping on “username,” they will be able to see a blue-colored “change username” option. From there, users can enter their desired new username and hit “next” to confirm the solicited change.

According to the platform, Snap users have been strongly requesting to change their handles for years. The option was also taken into consideration in the past, as reverse app engineer Alessandro Paluzzi pointed out in October 2021, a feature revealing that Snap was already beginning to work on a way to allow users to change their usernames.

Last week Snapchat also released several new features alongside changing usernames. Among them is Ticketmatcher Mini,” a new partnership with Ticketmaster that will allow users to discover events within their Snap Map based on their preferences.

The platform has also recently announced the introduction of mid-roll ads within its Story feature for influential Snap Stars. This new program, which is still in early beta, foresees sharing revenue with creators based on their levels of engagement and posting frequency.
