YouTube Shorts is Coming for TikTok With New Editing Features

YouTube Shorts is getting new editing features that aim to make it easier for creators to edit short-form videos directly on the platform.

There are five new tools, including a revamped video editor that provides similar editing features to those already found on competing platforms like TikTok and Reels.

The new video editor will help you cut and rearrange clips, zooming into footage, overlaying text and music directly from the editing timeline view. Creators will be able to preview the edited shorts on this timeline view before pushing their content on the platform.

YouTube says these new capabilities are the “first of more improvements” lined up to help streamline the Shorts editing process.

Adding music to your shorts is now easier

YouTube’s making it way easier to sync your Shorts to music. Just pick a track, and your clips auto-snap to the rhythm—no more dragging frames around to match the drop. Add in built-in filters and overlays through Shorts templates, and hopping on a trend just got a lot less painful.

Coming soon: sticker chaos. Creators will be able to drop image stickers straight from their camera roll, or generate custom ones using AI. Just type what you want—like “crying chicken nugget” or “disco pineapple”—and let YouTube cook. More tools, more chaos, more fun.
