Swarm was born as a spin-off of the old Foursquare. Back then, this created an uproar of unhappy users. And they had grounds – the app had been stripped of everything that once made it fun: mayorships, points and this old good competition between friends.
Over the following months, Foursquare listened and understood. Mayorships came back, and so did the gamification, thanks to the newly introduced “coins.”
Today, those coins have become a virtual currency of their own.

With the latest Swarm upgrade, you can use those hard earned coins and spend them on… sticker upgrades! Upgraded stickers will make you look cool maybe… but mainly, they will earn you double the amount of coins when used in a check-in.

So yes, you spend coins to buy stickers, which help you earn more coins. And the cycle never ends, for now anyway.
Also, those super-duper upgraded stickers can only be used once a week to earn the extra coins. So yes, you will need more of them, for all of your checkins…
