Swarm was born as a spin-off of the old Foursquare. Back then, this created an uproar of unhappy users. And they had grounds – the app had been stripped of everything that once made it fun: mayorships, points and this old good competition between friends.
Over the following months, Foursquare listened and understood. Mayorships came back, and so did the gamification, thanks to the newly introduced “coins.”
Today, those coins have become a virtual currency of their own.
