X is rolling out support for 4K video uploads. The objective is clear: compete with YouTube and Vimeo and keep users on the platform.
4K video uploads will be made available to all premium subscribers, according to a post by X’s engineering account.
Video uploads have historically been restricted to 1080p resolution and up to 8GB in size and roughly three hours long. I can only imagine that X will increase the size limit for 4K uploads.

Since Elon Musk acquired the platform, X has been working hard to bring more video to its platform, in an attempt to make the content more engaging but also to keep users on the platform. In recent months, X has rolled out a dedicated feed for vertical videos, and has gradually increased the upload limit for premium subscribers.
X is likely keeping an eye and working to capitalize on the uncertainty of a TikTok ban in the US, especially with its owner currently still employed by the administration in charge of TikTok’s future…
