WhatsApp Is Offering Cashback For UPI Payments In India

WhatsApp is reportedly offering users a cashback promotion to start making person-to-person payments on WhatsApp Pay.

Person-to-person payment is a feature that WhatsApp first introduced in India last year before extending the payment service to Brazil.

Now, the messaging service is running a cashback option in India, rewarding users with a small sum of money for starting to use the service – essentially when users make their first few payments out to other WhatsApp users.

According to a WABetaInfo report, this promotional feature seems to be rolling out to everyone globally now.

WABetaInfo recently reported that one of its readers received a total of ₹255 in cashback (roughly $3.41) after sending payments to five other WhatsApp users.

Indian news site Times Now provided some additional context about the promotion, which is supposedly limited to Android users, and available only for the first five transactions a user makes after installing WhatsApp’s UPI payment feature, WhatsApp Pay.

Reports show that for every transaction made, users in India get ₹51 back, even if each transaction is under ₹51.

To take advantage of the cashback promotion while it lasts, users need to ensure they are running the latest WhatsApp beta version. Furthermore, to be sure the promotion is enabled server-side, users should be able to see a pop-up that says “Give cash, get Rs 51 back” at the top of their screens once they have fully enrolled in the program and correctly set up WhatsApp Pay.
