Do you love sharing your Spotify favorites on IG Stories? This WhatsApp update is for you. Adding Spotify sharing to WhatsApp could be a big up for the messaging app too, considering how much engagement music is driving on other social media apps.

Android Police explains that WhatsApp has been working on new ways to share music on its app. The result seems to be an improved custom display within WhatsApp status.
The new music sharing feature looks almost exactly like what you have gotten used to sharing on Instagram Stories. That is not surprising considering Status are basically the WhatsApp version of Stories.
As per Android Police:
“Sharing to WhatsApp Status Updates will generate a preview of the song/album’s cover art, complete with the song and artist(s)′ names. Similar to sharing on Instagram, users will have four background color customization options — sampled from the cover art’s dominant colors. The viewers, on the other hand, will see a ‘Play on Spotify’ option when they look at your Status Update.”
My question is whether actually listening to the music shared by others will be as bad an experience as it still, to this day, on Instagram Stories.
No words on when, if at all, WhatsApp would look to add other music streaming service like YouTube Music or Apple Music.
