Twitter will reportedly relaunch verification with a new system allowing users to request a verified profile based on a clear set of guidelines.
Twitter paused all verification three years ago after admitting that the system was unclear and confusing, pledging to rebuild it with clearer guidelines.

While the “Request Verification” option hasn’t launched to the public yet, it is very likely that Twitter will roll it out in the coming weeks.
Twitter always wanted verified profiles to convey that someone with a high-profile account is really who they say they are. However, for users, it meant something different. The community thought that verified profiles were accounts that Twitter somehow considered noteworthy. Immediately, the checkmark became a badge of recognition, something everyone wanted.
Almost three years after it paused the previous program, Twitter is now ready to relaunch. This time, it promises to publicly document what qualifies a Twitter user to be verified, adding clarity and transparency to the process.
