Tumblr Brings Back Comments With A New Reply Feature

Last November Tumblr made the surprising decision to remove comments on its platform, following a September redesign which had upset numerous users.

But now, comments are finally back on Tumblr, and they are even better than before.

Authors can finally reply to their own posts. It’s a massive change, and a huge boost for online discussions. Before, replies were only about comments from readers, where the author would have no involvement whatsoever. Now, you can finally take part in the conversations happening on your own posts, explain your point, reply to questions or negative comments, or simply kickstart the conversation.

If you like our stories, there is an easy way to stay updated:

It is also worth noting that replies now work on weblogs as well, and not just on the original posts like before. Of course, that is up to you, the author, as you can adjust this in the settings, as well as select the level of privacy you would like for your posts:

  • – Everyone can reply
  • – Only users you follow, and users following you for at least a week, can reply
  • – Only users you follow, can reply

This is a good come-back for Tumblr, that faced the wrath of users when it redesigned its comment section last September. I think most users will be happy with the way replies now work on the platform, and that this will spark many long and engaging conversations.
