TikTok Is Testing A Full-Screen Horizontal Mode

The new TikTok Full-screen horizontal mode means Creators could now create a single video that’s optimized for both TikTok and YouTube.

Select TikTok users have started to see a new full-screen button on videos, that shifts the TikTok video into a horizontal full-screen mode.

The full-screen button appears under square and rectangle videos (not on full-screen vertical videos.) One tap on it will shift your phone to full-screen horizontal mode.

TikTok confirmed the limited test after several users had reported the full-screen button appearing in recent weeks. TikTok has always set itself apart by focusing on portrait video, but with this new feature, the app is getting one step closer to YouTube. The news of this test will no doubt please Creators who, until now, had to create separate videos for both TikTok and YouTube to utilize the different platform’s strengths.

Together with TikTok’s recent push for longer videos (up to 10 minutes), this could mean we would soon see a lot more of the content we would typically only find on YouTube.

“We’re always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience. Last year, we introduced longer videos, giving our community more time to create and be entertained on TikTok. Today, we’re excited to start rolling out the ability to upload videos that are up to 10 minutes, which we hope would unleash even more creative possibilities for our creators around the world.”
