TikTok is hosting its first-ever #MuseumMoment on Tuesday, May 18, an all-day global virtual event starring some of the world’s best museums.
#MuseumMoment will start with the National Gallery in Singapore, at 3 am EST, and will end with the Museo de Arte Popular in Mexico at 9 pm EST.
TikTok explained in a blog post that content with art-related hashtags, such as #ArtHistory, #ArtOnTikTok and #FineArt, tallies over 2 billion monthly views globally, a number up by more than 3,000% over the past year. TikTok added that content shared with the #museum hashtag has also been up nearly 200% year over year.
The virtual content will be live on the TikTok for Good channel. Highlights will include:
- A tour of 1930s England via the U.K.’s Black Country Museum.
- Hearing from a taxidermy expert at Museum für Naturkunde Berlin in Germany.
- Seeing famous works of art, like The Night Watch from Rembrandt, at Rijksmuseum in The Netherlands.
- Exploring the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Sacramento History Museum in the U.S.
As part of the global event, TikTok will also release an AR effect that enables guests at the Palace of Versailles to come alive as Queen Marie Antoinette while they stroll through the virtual gallery.
