Universal Studios Japan has announced an opening date for its long-awaited Super Nintendo World themed park. The most exciting part: a Mario Kart-themed rollercoaster housed inside a reconstructed Bowser’s castle.  It makes use of AR and projection mapping technology, with riders proudly wearing AR headsets shaped like Mario’s cap.

With an opening scheduled for February 4, 2021, Universal Studios Japan is actually beating its own expectations. Just last month, Nintendo said that the project would open in Spring 2021.

Until then, a themed cafe and merchandise store have already opened in the main Universal Studios Japan park.

Bloomberg got a first look at the soon to open Super Nintendo World, including the Mario Kart rollercoaster. They also took note of the future expansion with a Donkey Kong themes area:

While the cars have steering wheels, and multiple vehicles can race alongside each other, it sounds like the vehicles are on rails.  And even if it’s not guaranteed that you can win the race, you will always have great fun trying to do it, thanks to the power-ups, and a unique experience each time you ride.
