Snapchat is announcing Spotlight Challenges, a new way for creators to win cash prizes and grow their engagement.
In an effort to reward its creator community for their creativity, Snapchat is offering users a new way to win cash prizes. Announced last week, Spotlight Challenges will reward Snapchatters who create top-performing Spotlight Snaps using specific Lenses, Sounds, or #Topics.

According to the announcement, Spotlight Challenges encourage Snapchatters to bring “their unique voice, perspective, personality and creativity” into their Snaps. Starting November, Snapchatters can partake in the Challenge to win part of a $1k to $25k jackpot, though Snapchat says it may add to the amount on specific Challenges.
Either way, all winning Snapchatters will walk away with more than $250 from a Spotlight Challenge.
To participate, users on Snapchat can tap on the trending symbol on the top right corner of Spotlight to visit the Trending Page, where they can select the Challenge to participate in. They’ll then be able to see the specific Challenge’s page, with a description of the Challenge – and entries already submitted by the community.
“Challenge Details” will provide additional Challenge-specific information, such as available prizes and the deadline for the submission. At this point, Snapchatters can tap the camera icon to open the Snapchat camera and start creating.
The top 50 eligible, most relevant, and most-viewed submissions in each Challenge will be judged on the following criteria: Creativity & Originality, Innovative use of Snap Creative Tools, Unique POV, and Entertainment Value.
Snap says that, on each Challenge, the platform will reward about 3 to 5 winners, “although occasionally we may select more or fewer winners.” Spotlight Challenges will be rolling out next month to Snapchatters 16+ in the U.S., with more markets coming in the following months.
