Publicis Groupe has appointed its first-ever Chief Metaverse Officer and he’s… a lion… in the metaverse.
At a time when everyone is keen to enter the Metaverse, many brands, and their advertising agency counterparts are wondering what the best path forward is. For Publicis Groupe, it clearly started by putting someone in charge and appointing its first-ever Chief Metaverse Officer.

And no one could have been a better choice than a real Web3 native: a computer-generated avatar named Leon.
Leon (the lion) has a striking resemblance to Publicis’ trademark lion corporate logo. The Web3 avatar was created by Publicis’ Conseil unit in France, and he comes with a French accent, celebrating the roots of one of the largest advertising holding companies.
Leon Avatar is described as “a new interface to help its clients understand, navigate and develop Web3 strategies.” His role will no doubt be shaped by the evolution of the Metaverse, but for now, Leon’s main focus will be to:
- Accompany clients and help advise how to navigate and approach the meta jungle, with strategies unique to their business.
- Act as a guide to employees with the support of the right expertise and teams at Publicis.
- Showcase the very best examples of Web3 from our clients and from across Publicis.
“The metaverse isn’t a destination, it’s a real-time learning moment for all,” Chairman-CEO Arthur Sadoun said in a statement, adding, “It requires interrogation, education, and experimentation. We are committed to being on that journey with our clients, to help them understand what it means for their business and to bring them the existing Web3 capabilities in the Groupe across data, media, and technology. Leon embodies that as an avatar and will help our clients navigate this new channel and progress every step of the way.”
