Up until now, Periscope has let its users save their streams for as long as 24 hours. If you wanted your stream to live longer than that, you either had to save it manually on your phone, or upload it to YouTube. This is now changing, for good.

For what looks like a full-on attack on Facebook live, Periscope has just debuted a beta feature that lets users save their streams. All you have to do is to add #save on your live stream title, and the app will save it on your public profile. For ever. Users can of course delete their saved streams at any time.

While the feature is still in beta, it is advisable that users save their streams on their device manually as well, as the new function is still being tested, albeit rather broadly. It could of course also mean that the feature is still not in its final stages of development, meaning that it may change shape or form in the coming months. It could also possibly lead to a save button and not just a hashtag feature.

The new feature works on both iOS and Android and it is a nod to Facebook; it launched its Live video streaming feature only a couple of months ago and it has already been adopted widely. With Meerkat already out of the race, and Periscope tied together with a troubled Twitter, it makes sense for the live-streaming platform to ship new features in order to keep interest afloat.

One last thing: Periscope has also added drone integration… how awesome is that?
