Spotify knows that metrics influence people: the more followers a podcast has, the better it must be, right?
Well know Spotify is taking metrics one step further with episode level “plays.” The new metric lets users, and Creators, see how many times an audio-only or video podcast episode has been actively listened to or watched. Hence letting everyone know which episodes are the most popular.
The “plays” appear next to each podcast episodes in the app, on the home page, episode page and show page. The metric is also accessible for creators on Spotify for Creators and Megaphone.
The new metric aims to encourage users to explore new podcasts by removing the dread of guessing if it’s any good. Its’s very simple: the more people listened to it, the better it must be indeed.
And for Creators, this is an important metric that will let them learn what works best, which episodes resonate the most and what audiences are actively looking for. And because it is a public metric, they can also use to benchmark their content against their competitors.
