Lego Unveils $1,000 Death Star, Its Most Expensive Set Ever

Lego is taking Star Wars fandom, and adult nostalgia, to a whole new level.

Eight years after launching the record-breaking $800 Millennium Falcon, the company is introducing its first-ever $1,000 Lego set: the Ultimate Collectors Series (UCS) Death Star.

Standing over 70cm tall, 79cm wide, and 27cm deep, the massive diorama offers a vertical slice of the iconic space station, with six detailed levels packed with compartments that let fans recreate nearly every classic scene from Star Wars and Return of the Jedi.

We’re talking

  • The detention block AA-23 shootout and garbage compactor escape
  • The Emperor’s throne room showdown with Luke and Vader
  • Obi-Wan shutting down the tractor beam
  • Leia and Luke’s dramatic swing across the chasm
  • Vader’s unsettling “lack of faith” moment in the conference room
  • Even an Imperial shuttle landing bay
  • Plus a stormtrooper in a hot tub as an Easter egg

The set includes a staggering 38 mini-figures, with multiple versions of Luke and Han, as well as Red Guards, troopers, droids, and more.

Unlike previous spherical Death Star sets, this UCS model is designed as a displayable diorama, allowing every room to be visible at once, much like the Batcave Shadowbox released earlier this year.

It’s also part of Lego’s growing strategy to tap into the adult collector market, which already represents around 15% of its business. As The Wall Street Journal put it: “Grown-ups are now a gold mine for Lego.”

The UCS Death Star officially launches October 1st for Lego Insiders and October 4th for everyone else. Early buyers will also get a limited promo gift: a TIE Fighter with Imperial Hangar Rack. At $999.99, it may be too much for many,  but for fans with the budget (and shelf space), this is arguably the ultimate Star Wars Lego centerpiece.
