The Instagram algorithm will make content recycled from other apps like TikTok less discoverable on Reels.
Instagram is calling out Creators who have been cross-posting videos from other platforms, targeting all low-quality video content and videos containing logos or watermarks.

Creators have long tried to game the system by sharing their videos across platforms, and especially from TikTok to Instagram Reels. But on Tuesday, Instagram announced that it will now intervene and limit the distribution of Reels containing content “that is visibly recycled from other applications,” offering as an example, videos containing logos or watermarks.
Instagram’s spokesperson Devi Narasimhan said in a statement, “We heard in research that people have a less satisfying experience when they see content that is recycled from other apps or is blurry and low-resolution. So, we’re making this content less discoverable in places like the Reels tab.”
Of course, a less official statement would put the emphasis on Instagram looking to convince more Creators to create content right on its platform instead of rival TikTok. But saying just that would be, erm.. less classy, right?
