Instagram has just doubled the maximum length for Reels which can now be up to 60 seconds long.
Who needs IGTV now?

When Reels were first introduced, they came with a 15-second time cap. Only a month later, Instagram doubled the time limit, allowing Reels to last up to 30 seconds. As Reels are nearly a year old, Instagram has now decided they could last up to 60 seconds. That’s a 400% increase in less than 12 months.
But don’t worry, things should stop there, for now anyway.
So why did Instagram increase the time limit for Reels again? Well, because TikTok, that’s why.
Sixty second-long videos are behind the huge success of TikTok. In fact, it is when the platform capped the videos at 60 seconds that its user base really started to blow up. And when you are Instagram, you dream of being as popular as TikTok, hence why.
The fact is 60-second videos allow you to do a lot more. They offer better storytelling while maintaining a decent pace that makes it so hard to stop scrolling. And while TikTok recently expanded its limit to three minutes for all Creators, Instagram may just well stick with the 60 seconds for now. If not, then the company might as well kill IGTV completely.
