Instagram Preview Cards Are Coming Back To Twitter

Instagram is bringing back support for Twitter Card previews that are automatically generated when you share an Instagram post on Twitter.

Nine years since the feature was revoked, Instagram is again rolling out the ability to preview posts that users wish to share on Twitter. The change improves the current setting, letting users preview only the URL text of the post they type as a Tweet.

The feature is now rolling out globally on Android, iOS, and the web.

Twitter also confirmed the change in a Tweet, saying that “if you want to share your latest Instagram post on the Twitter timeline too, you’re in luck. Now when you share a link to an IG post in a Tweet, it’ll show up as a card with a preview of the photo.”

Instagram’s former CEO, Kevin Systrom, was responsible for making the controversial decision to remove the preview when Instagram was acquired by Facebook (now Meta) back in 2012. Only a few months after the acquisition, Twitter also removed a feature that allowed users to find on Twitter, the people they followed on Instagram.
