Instagram is bringing Reels Ads placements to its Marketing API, available on all current Marketing API versions – without an upgrade.
Earlier this week, Instagram announced that it will introduce Reels Ads placements on Instagram via the Instagram Marketing API. The option will be available on all current Marketing API versions, and developers won’t need to upgrade their API or use a new endpoint.

The new Reels Ads placement option will become available via the current Marketing API endpoint, comforting news for developers already familiar with it. Instagram will simply add the new INSTAGRAM_REELS placement option to the current Marketing API endpoint.
Thanks to the new addition, developers now have the opportunity to allow their clients to create and preview Reels Ads via the Instagram Marketing API. After updating their app, the new feature will power up their Marketing API with new useful capabilities.
Firstly, they will be able to use “INSTAGRAM_REELS” as one of the target positions when creating ads. Secondly, when breaking down insights by Placement level, developers will be able to see how ads perform per Instagram Reels placement. Finally, they will be able to fetch the preview in the Instagram Reels format.
The Facebook For Developers page has added complete step-by-step developer documentation to assist developers in getting started with Facebook’s Marketing API. The documentation also includes all technical details related to this update.
