With TikTok’s future still in the air, Meta is moving to establish its supremacy and yes, that could well mean we will finally get an Instagram app for the iPad.
The company has publicly resisted to the idea of building an iPad Instagram app in the past. Back in February 2022, Instagram’s head Adam Mosseri replied to a post from Marques Brownlee, explaining why Meta still did not have an iPad app for Instagram and why it was not really thinking about it.
“We get this one a lot,” Mosseri said. “It’s still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority. Hoping to get to it at some point, but right now we’re very heads down on other things.”

But things change. TikTok is in danger (still) and Meta is keen to push Reels and Instagram to as many people and devices as possible. And that means iPads too. Currently, the Instagram experience on the iPad is far from great. The app runs like a blown-up version of the iPhone app, and that’s not great. So a dedicated iPad app would be very welcome.
The Information first shared the news, citing the uncertain legal status of TikTok amid the divest-or-ban law and Trump’s tariffs as the push Meta needed.
