Naturally, YouTube Live 360 will require much more than an iPhone to shoot, but this is an amazing step forward in the world of live video. The feature will be launched officially during Coachella, becoming the first ever 360 video live-streamed music festival.
For viewers, nothing will change as there will be no new hardware or software required, although 360-video will still not work on Safari. For YouTube creators, nothing changes in the way they use YouTube for live-streaming, except that they will now need a camera that supports the technology.

YouTube has also announced support for spatial audio, but only for on-demand videos at this stage. Spatial audio is a technology that plays sounds in the same way people actually hear, “where depth, distance and intensity all play a role,” as explained by Neal Mohan, Chief Product Officer for YouTube.

If you’re keen to create your own 360-live videos or on-demande videos with spatial audio, you can do so without investing in your own equipment, as long as you live within acceptable distance of one of the few YouTube Space locations.
