Remember when Facebook was all about keeping up with your friend’s latest adventures, rather than a scrolling through a sea of ads and suggested brand posts? Well, Facebook is going old school, bringing back the OG vibes with its new Friends-only feed. This is OG 2009 Facebook and I’m loving it.
As the name suggests, the new Friends-only feed is designed to showcase content exclusively from your friends: stories, Reels, posts and even those birthday reminders we have all come to rely upon to keep friendships going. The move is not insignificant as it aims to cut through the algorithmic clutter that has come to dominate the main feed.

In their announcement, Facebook acknowledged that while they’ve expanded into areas like Groups, Video, and Marketplace over the years, the essence of connecting with friends has somewhat faded. This new feature is their attempt to bring back that personal touch.
Accessing this new friends-only feed is straightforward. It’s nestled in the navigation bar of the Facebook app. For those who like quick access, you can pin it by tapping the three-bar icon, heading into settings, and customizing your tab preferences.
But that’s not all. Facebook hints at reintroducing several “OG” features throughout the year, aligning with CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s vision of bringing the platform closer to its roots. While specifics are under wraps, it’s clear that Facebook is keen on reviving some nostalgic elements. I personally can’t wait to start poking my friends again…
This initiative reflects a broader trend in social media. Platforms are recognizing the value of genuine connections and are tweaking their algorithms to prioritize content from people you actually know. For instance, Threads recently adjusted its ranking system to favor posts from followed accounts over unsolicited recommendations.
In a digital age where algorithms often dictate our online experience, this is a refreshing nod to the platform’s original mission: fostering real connections. And I am so here for that.
