Facebook Wants To Be The Leading Second-Screen App

While watching TV, second screens play a bit role, especially for social media platforms. Up until now, Twitter has dominated this sphere, but Facebook is really starting to get very strong! So, what are the top habits of Facebook users on their second screens while watching TV?

In their latest study on the topic, GlobalWebIndex found that 48% of Facebook users used their “second screens to chat with friends”, whereas 44% checked their social media profiles in general.

Strengthening the idea that social media plays a huge role in how people consume the news, 36% of Facebook users read the news while watching TV, while 33% play games and 31% read or write emails.

Also 28% of them search for products to buy (hopefully from ads they’ve just seen on TV), whereas 23% look for information related to what they are watching. A small percentage – only 12% share their opinions about what they are watching (TV shows) and only 10% actually interact with online content related to the TV show they are watching.

This last percentage is lower than the amount of Twitter users (roughly 1 in 5) who share their opinions about the TV they are watching. Finally, Twitter users are 66% more likely to interact with online content related to the TV show they are watching.
