Facebook is testing a new design for Facebook Pages that comes without the “Like” count and “Like” button. Is this the end of the “Like” for Facebook Pages?
The test is being conducted with “a handful” of public figures, including actors, authors, bands, books/novels, and creators, as well as a small percentage of English-language business pages.
Facebook said that with more creators, public figures, and other public entities turning to Facebook to connect with their communities during the pandemic, it was the perfect time to test a new page design and new features that make Pages easier to use.
The new design offers a cleaner and more intuitive layout that makes a Page’s bio, posts, and other information more accessible.
But what a lot of people are going to talk about, is the missing “like” count. Vanity metrics have long been the subject of discussion. Twitter talked about removing followers count, Instagram went further and removed the like counts on posts. And now it seems Facebook is testing out its way out of its own like count for Pages.
Just to be clear, I am talking about the Page’s “Like” count, meaning how many people like the page, and not the number of likes on posts.
Instead, Facebook Pages will now only display the number of followers, and a follow button. Is this the end of the “Like” for Facebook Pages?
Pages that are in the test group are also getting access to a new News Feed that makes it easier to see what others are sharing and join conversations. For example, Facebook Pages can now comment and post across the Facebook app as a Page.
The new design also makes many admins and insights tools easier to access and navigate. Page notifications have also received an overall, as most notifications, including mentions and post reactions, now come as aggregated.
