Facebook is incentivizing user feedback with the launch of a new app – Facebook Viewpoints – helping you turn your input into cash rewards.
User feedback is the backbone of social platform development, and the Facebook family is no exception. Available for iOS and Android, the new Facebook Viewpoints app, announced this week, offers users in the United States (over the age of 18) an opportunity to participate in various surveys, tasks, and research related to Facebook’s family of apps.
The app will also launch in other regions during the year ahead, ensuring all users around the world can have their say.
How To Get Started
All you have to do is sign up, and Facebook will prompt you with several opportunities to provide your feedback. First up, your perspective of social media’s effect on mental health; a 15-minute survey that will score you 1,000 points ($5) and enable Facebook to “build better products that aim to limit the negative impacts of social media and enhance the benefits.”
One of the most significant selling points of the app is transparency. Before you even take part, Facebook Viewpoints will outline what information the task/survey is gathering, how Facebook will use the data, and how many points you’ll earn for completing any program.
However, at this point, it is still unclear what the minimum requirement is for a payout, but the app will let you know how many points you need to earn in order to receive payment.
Facebook will then send you your compensation via PayPal “within 7 to 10 days.”
How Does Facebook Benefit?
Put simply by Facebook, the acquisition of voluntary feedback is “the best way to make products better is to get insights directly from the people who use them.” So, it will look for these insights to help shape the future of the Facebook family of apps – Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and, of course, Facebook itself.
The launch of this app is certainly an interesting turn of events given Facebook’s endless history of poor data practices. So let’s see how many opt-in.
