Facebook and luxury fashion brand Gucci have announced a joint lawsuit against an international counterfeiting business.
As part of its effort to stamp out abuse of its Terms, Facebook is taking further action against those who use its platform for illegal purposes. This time, Facebook is taking joint legal action with Gucci, against the owner of an international counterfeiting business.

According to by Jessica Romero, Director of Platform Enforcement & Litigation, and Mark Fiore, Director & Associate General Counsel for Intellectual Property, the lawsuit was filed against an “individual in the United States District Court, Northern District of California for breach of Facebook and Instagram’s Terms and infringement of Gucci’s intellectual property rights.”
The defendant has been using a variety of Facebook and Instagram accounts to evade any effort to enforce the platforms’ Terms and sell a range of counterfeit Gucci products.
Promoting the sale, and selling counterfeit products on Facebook and Instagram is, of course, prohibited. This is the first time Facebook is collaborating with brands like Gucci to enforce action and tackle counterfeiting on its platforms.
“We’re working to ensure Facebook’s platforms are safe for people and businesses to connect, share and buy and sell together,” explain Romero and Fiore.
“This lawsuit is a clear signal to those who would seek to engage in similar abuses that this behavior will not be tolerated. Facebook and Gucci plan to continue their enforcement efforts against counterfeiting and hold those who abuse Facebook and Instagram accountable.”
