Dove Shatters Beauty Stereotypes In Gaming

Dove strives for better representation in gaming, and aims to shatter virtual beauty stereotypes.

The campaign by LOLA MullenLowe is part of Dove’s Real Virtual Beauty, a series of actions supported by partners across the gaming industry, including Epic Games’ Unreal Engine’s education team and Women in Games, to shatter beauty stereotypes and equip the next generation of young creators and players with the tools to build self-esteem and body confidence.

In this moving short film, Dove depicts the life of a video game character, Cinthia, once the game has ended.

The film is based on the real story of Cinthia Dalama, one of the many protagonists whose 3D avatar is available to download for free on Dove’s Real Virtual Beauty website.

The campaign is inspired by a new research study from Dove, in association with Women in Games , which shows that 60% of girls and 62% of women feel misrepresented in games, with over one-third of young girls’ self-esteem being negatively impacted by the current lack of diversity, as 74% of women wish for more inclusivity in female video game characters
